A Blood Soulsieve is a magical artifact created by Autarch Sejanoz to store memories of his own, and of his enemies, for future use. Should Grand Master choose to visit Otavai during the events of The Dusk of Eternal Night, they will explore the contents of the Blood Soulsieve, and can use it as a Special Item themselves.
History[]
The Blood Soulsieve is located in Otavai, inside one of the deepest sanctums of Sejanoz's palace. It is a pool of thick crimson liquid, surrounded by Adezites — gems used by the worshipers of the Evil Powers of Blood and Murder, used to store the unholy energies by human sacrifices — and in its centre, a dark stone pillar rises, presumably meeting the tip of the Golden Pagoda.[1]
The pool contains the memories of Sejanoz's enemies, including their darkest secrets. This let Sejanoz learn and use this knowledge for his own goals. Sejanoz was not the only one who could explore the memories, however - Sejanoz's widow, Balerodah, too explored the Blood Soulsieve. Despite Sejanoz's death in MS 5085, a copy of his spirit lived on inside the Blood Soulsieve, and should this spirit encounter a living being, Sejanoz could have possessed that body to be used as a vessel to return.[2]
Should Grand Master choose to visit Otavai during the events of The Dusk of Eternal Night, they will explore the contents of the Blood Soulsieve at the prompting of their Sixth Sense. After braving the evil temptations of bloodlust, Grand Master will revisit Sejanoz's early history, until the point at which he became ruler of Bhanar. They will be interrupted by Balerodah, who recants his story up until the point at which he made a pact with Agarash the Damned, then attacks Grand Master.[1]
After her defeat, Grand Master explores the Blood Soulsieve once again for information, where they discover that Sejanoz wanted to use the Claw of Naar — retrieved by Grand Master during the events of The Hunger of Sejanoz but subsequently stolen once again — and use its power to cause an explosion in Agarash's old throneroom in Naaros, where the fabric of reality was weakest after his battle with the Elder Magi millennia ago, which would have been sufficient to open a Gate of Doom to the Pit of Eternal Pain — the key piece of information required by Grand Master to discover where to go next to thwart the Naarvakim's plans.[2]
Sejanoz's spirit in the Blood Soulsieve, however, will interrupt Grand Master, and threaten to turn Grand Master's body into a vessel for his revival. However, Blazer arrived on the scene, and the two Kai Grand Masters are able to repel and destroy Sejanoz's spirit for good. The Blood Soulsieve the condenses itself into a crimson sphere, and can be taken by Grand Master as a Special Item.[2]
In the gamebooks[]
The Blood Soulsieve is only encountered in The Dusk of Eternal Night, and if Grand Master chooses to explore Otavai after escaping from the Crypt of Agarash. The Blood Soulsieve is explored before and after the fight with Balerodah, but Grand Master will be attacked by the power of blood in doing so (making Vrenzha useful). It can be taken as a Special Item afterwards, and Grand Master must do so (and not discard it), for it is an immensely-powerful artifact of an otherworldy nature, and can thus be used to restart the ancient Shianti defenses protecting the Isle of Lorn. While multiple items can be used to do so, this is the only item in the Otavai path that can be obtained. Not having this item will result in the Vaag attack at the end of the book overwhelming the New Order Kai, leading to a game over.
