Lone Wolf

King Braern I (MS 3420–3472) was the second Monarch of Sommerlund, succeeding Kian I.

Biography[]

Braern was born in MS 3420. He became King of Sommerlund in MS 3445, styled Braern I, succeeding his father King Kian I, after the defeat of Archlord Vashna and Sommerlund's founding. During his reign, the four great cities of Sommerlund were established: Holmgard, Toran, Tyso and Anskaven. He appointed those who had served in the prior wars with distinction as Barons, and granted them land and suzerainty over the people there.[1] Holmgard was also established as the capital.[2]

Braern I also issued a Royal Charter to the Mercers (merchants) of Toran, permitting them to create a Guild to control trade in Toran. In exchange, the Guild of the Mercers agreed to create and adhere to standards of quality and conduct that its customers could be trusted. The Guild of Magicians in Toran was given similar Guild status during his reign. This model was copied in other nations within the Freelands Alliance, such as Durenor in MS 3546, and Lyris in MS 3551.[3]

In MS 3457, the Royal Mint of Sommerlund was established by Braern I, and began printing coins. Also during MS 3457, Braern I ordered that Balnor Marghan be banished through the Shadow Gate of Toran for his crimes, establishing a punishment that would stand within Sommerlund for the most serious of crimes for over a millennium.[4]

At an unknown date during Braern I's reign, an alliance with Dessi was established.[5]

Braern I died in MS 3472, and was succeeded by Maura I, his daughter with Queen Imelda.[6]
