Claw of Naar

The Claw of Naar is an ancient wand of power crafted by Naar and used by Agarash the Damned.

Characteristics[]

The Claw of Naar is mace-like, with a taloned tip. The head of the claw resembles a petrified vulture's foot. It was cast in a black metal that is flecked with shimmering scarlet specks. The shaft is twisted like a length of gnarled root and it is perforated along its length with pea sized hollows. The Claw of Naar is impervious to destruction by normal and some enchanted weapons.

History[]

The Claw of Naar is an ancient wand of power crafted by Naar, and was wielded by Agarash during his conquest of Magnamund. It was supposedly lost forever deep within Naaros after his fall in 3572 MS, but in MS 5085, prior to the events of Vampirium, it was recovered by servants of Autarch Sejanoz.[1] Grand Master set out on a quest to capture the Claw of Naar before Sejanoz could use it, and successfully delivered it to Lord Rimoah.[2]

18 years later, prior to the events of The Storms of Chai, the Elder Magi had yet to find a way to destroy the Claw of Naar, but had discovered that the powerful weapon was merely one half of a stronger weapon: Combined with the Eye of Agarash (which otherwise possesses little latent power), the resulting weapon is concentrated several hundredfolds. Grand Master undertook a mission to retrieve the Eye, set in the throne of Chai, to deliver it to the Elder Magi before servants of Evil could retrieve it.[3] In the meantime, however, the Claw of Naar was stolen from its containment facility in Dessi by an Ice Demon.[4] Although the Claw was incomplete, its power may have been amplified by a ritual to charge it with necromantic power.[4] The Claw was delivered to Zashnor, who ambushed Grand Master, on their mission to deliver the Eye of Agarash to safekeeping, unwittingly putting both halves of the artifact in close proximity, much to Grand Master's shock. After a valiant battle, Grand Master slew and destroyed Zashnor for good, allowing both the Claw of Naar and the Eye of Agarash to be taken into safekeeping by the Elder Magi.[5]
