Dejgazad was a Drakkarim fortress in Dejadar, the name of the land before it was called Sommerlund. It was destroyed by the early Sommlending in MS 3434 in the Battle of Dejgazad. Afterwards, the settlement of Searsheld was resettled on top of where Dejgazad once lay.

Etymology[]

In Giak, Dejgazad could be derived from dej (east) + gazad (fortress).

Geography[]

Dejgazad was located slightly to the west of modern-day Holmgard.[1] A massive stronghold, it was built on a knoll on the river plain, between the River Daune and the River Eledil.[2]

History[]

Between MS 3100 and MS 3400, the forces of the Darklands, under the command of Archlord Vashna, marched west from what is today known as the Darklands, over the Durncrag Mountains and into new land, slaughtering anything in their way. His Drakkarim allies built a fortress, called Dejgazad, in this new land. In MS 3433, Vashna arrived in Dejgazad and proclaimed it and its surrounding lands as Dejgazar. Several of his Nadziranim also moved to Dejgazad, to help their cause.[2]

In MS 3434, the Sommlending arrived from beyond the Northern Void. They landed in what is now known as Anskaven, and secured a foothold. Blessed by the god Kai and Ishir, and their leader, King Kian, wielding the Sommerswerd, they inflicted the first defeat on Vashna at the Battle of Anskaven. The Drakkarim of Dejgazad heard the news, and their leader, Warlord Zangar, decided to send their elite forces to confront them in the Battle of Lagan Marches. This proved to be equally-ineffective, with Zangar and his men fleeing the battlefield after the defeat. Vashna sent a mass of Crypt Spawn to cover their retreat, but this too was defeated by the Sommlending, using magic that would later form the basis of knowledge of the Brotherhood of the Crystal Star. King Kian and the Sommlending pursued the routed forces all the way to their fortress, where they fought a last stand in the Battle of Dejgazad. This too was a decisive win for the Sommlending, who routed the forces of Dejgazad once again, destroyed Vashna's Nadziranim stationed there, and razed the fortress to the ground. The remaining forces were driven ruthlessly back across the Durncrag Mountains.[2]

After the destruction of Dejgazad, the settlement of Searsheld was built on top of it. However, lingering elements of Nadziranim magic remain in the vicinity. The Elders of the Brotherhood of the Crystal Star discovered that an incomplete dark ritual was attempted in Dejgazad, and could theoretically be reactivated, causing a geological catastrophe not just for Searsheld but for Sommerlund as a whole.[3]
