Delissa is an Eldenoran agent of Gwynian the Sage and the Nameless Order. She and her husband, Hulsta, ran a cooperage (barrel maker) in Duadon, and helped Grand Master infiltrate Skull-Tor where they destroyed the Runes of Agarash. After Grand Master's success, Delissa moved to Varetta with the help of Gwynian.
Biography[]
Delissa and Hulsta ran a cooperage, making barrels, in Duadon. In secret, however, they were agents of Gwynian the Sage, members of the Nameless Order that sought to undermind the corrupted aristocracy of the Stornlands.[1][2] She has one cousin, Jac.[3]
In MS 5083, they spied on Lord Vandyan, who was using the power of the Runes of Agarash in Skull-Tor to conduct an invasion of Lyris. During the events of Rune War, Grand Master met Delissa and Hulsta in Duadon, using the secret code phrase "a barrel made from Sommlending oak" to identify himself.[4] Hulsta accompanied Grand Master to a secret entrance in Cillan Square, leading into Skull-Tor. However, a rockfall in the tunnel killed Hulsta, forcing Grand Master to continue their quest alone.[5] Grand Master was successful in their quest to destroy the Runes of Agarash, and escaped from Skull-Tor. However, the alarm had sounded in Duadon, and Grand Master was forced to take refuge in Delissa's house, where they were forced to break the news of her husband to her. Delissa helped keep Grand Master safe from the Vandyan's soldiers searching for him.[6][7]
Delissa kept Grand Master hidden in her house for three days, when the time came for them to be extracted. Gwynian informed them that Banedon would meet them ten miles north of Duadon, at Xaitar's Rock, with his skyship. Delissa originally planned to use another of the ancient tunnels that Grand Master used to infiltrate Skull-Tor, but found it sealed and guarded. After three days, they decided to attempt to exit via the North Gate, with Grand Master disguised as her cousin Jac, claiming they were headed to Luyen to take care of Delissa's sister.[7][8] At the North Gate, Grand Master was challenged by a guard, attempting to trick them into answering a fake question about Luyen.[3] Grand Master either answered this guard correctly or fought his way to the rendezvous point, where they were both[9] taken to Varetta to safety.[10]
In Varetta, Delissa and her husband were celebrated as heroes in the Halls of Learning. She later returned to Eldenora, to become the new leader of the resistance against Lord Vandyan. In MS 5092, she sparked an uprising that led to Vandyan's assassination. Delissa did not want this, as she wanted him tried for his crimes, but the Acolytes of Vashna amplified the chaos, assassinated him as he was now expendable, and convinced King Loarn of Delden that Eldenora's vast timberlands could be claimed. Control of Eldenora fell into the hands of the Acolytes of Vashna and their agents, and a bounty was placed on Delissa's head. Gwynian was able to evacuate her to Varetta, where she resumed her work as a barrel-maker.[9]
In MS 5102, during the events of Dead in the Deep, depending on the actions of the player, Delissa may encounter Grand Master again in Varetta, where she recounted her story after the events of Rune War. She also informed them of the events of the Acolytes of Vashna, and suggested that the best way to infiltrate Emolyria would be to disguise themselves as an Acolyte themselves.[9]
In the gamebooks[]
Rune War[]
Delissa is encountered in Rune War, with her and her husband Hulsta as the primary agents of Gwynian the Sage helping Grand Master in their quest to destroy the Runes of Agarash. Hulsta dies during this quest, and Delissa later shelters Grand Master from Vandyan's forces as they search for them. The two eventually make it to a rendezvous point with Banedon and his Cloud-dancer skyship, where they are taken to Varetta.
Dead in the Deep[]
Delissa can be encountered in Dead in the Deep. In Varetta, Gavalandro suggests that the cooperage on Varettian Avenue, which has an agent of the Nameless Order, could be of help. In Helin,[11] should Grand Master travel to Varettian Avenue, this agent will be revealed as Delissa.[12] The text is slightly-different if the player has played Rune War[9] or not,[13] but her advice is the same in both sections: She suggests infiltrating the Emolyria by blending in with the Acolytes of Vashna, pretending to be a new recruit.
If her advice is followed, Grand Master will head towards some ruins in Helin where the Acolytes were congregating.[14] They will then find a disguise, and a group of Acolytes. Grand Master has the option of blending in with the Acolytes, which sends them on a path where they follow Elder Frerin into Zekgazad, and need to prove their "loyalty" to evil by obtaining an Amulet of Fealty, by performing some evil act (although it is possible to obtain one beforehand, by confronting a group of Acolytes in Varetta[15][16][17]). Otherwise, Grand Master can leave with the disguise, and enter Emolyria alone, under the guise of helping an Elder gather rare Agarashi bones.[18] Grand Master also has the option to decline Delissa's advice, and seek another way in to Zekgazad.[19]
