The Doomstone of Darke was a Doomstone created by Agarash the Damned, and embodied the power of Right-Handed Magic. It was eventually combined with the Nyras Sceptre, creating a powerful weapon that was wielded by Darklord Dakushna and Warlord Magnaarn. The Nyras Sceptre was eventually destroyed by Lone Wolf upon killing Magnaarn.

Appearance and powers[]

An illustration of the Doomstone of Darke is available at The Darke Crusade: ยง200.

The Doomstone of Darke is a huge black gemstone with scarlet veins that glow within the depths of the stone, swirling and undulating as if alive.[1]

The Doomstone of Darke offers total control over Right-Handed Magic, and as such, it is dubbed as the strongest of the Doomstones. The wielder of this Doomstone can outmatch any wielder of Dark Magic, and dominate the Nadziranim.[2] When combined with the Nyras Sceptre, it creates a weapon of fearsome power.[3]

History[]

The Doomstones were incredibly-powerful artifacts of Dark power, originally created by Agarash the Damned. After Agarash's defeat, the Doomstones were lost. Millennia later, after the death of Archlord Vashna, the Darklords undertook several quests to attempt to retrieve the Doomstones, in order to boost their personal strength and the title of Archlord. After four centuries of struggle, Darklord Zagarna emerged with all the Doomstones as the victor, and became the second Archlord. Legend has it that Zagarna had the Doomstones encapsulated in the body of a dying man.[4]

During his reign, he lost the Doomstones. The Doomstone of Darke somehow found its way into the hands of Darklord Dakushna, which he combined with the Nyras Sceptre to create an extremely-powerful artifact. It is unknown how Dakushna came across the Doomstone. Some of the Darklords believed that Zagarna feared the power of the Doomstone, and some believed that due to its power, Dakushna was now controlled by a greater power than himself. The Nyras Sceptre led to Dakushna becoming considered one of the most powerful Darklords, despite his own general lack of power.[5]

After the fall of the Darklords in MS 5050, two of Dakushna's Nadziranim fought for control of the Nyras Sceptre, which was fought to a draw. One Nadziran kept the Nyras Sceptre, while one kept the Doomstone. The Doomstone was taken to the Temple of Antah, where the Nadziranim intended to keep it secure for the Naarvakim, who intended to find a way to bring Agarash the Damned back to Magnamund.[2] Despite the two Nadziranim fighting for the pieces of the Nyras Sceptre, however, the Nadziranim as a whole were waiting for the two to be reunited.[6]

In MS 5076, during the events of The Darke Crusade, Warlord Magnaarn of Darke discovered its location, and began hunting it. Magnaarn was able to find the Nyras Sceptre, and eventually the Doomstone, and recombined them.[7] As a result, the Nadziranim in the Darklands fortresses of Akagazad and Kagorst, lacking a master without the Darklords, fell under his control, and began to muster against Lencia. Although the Nadziranim wanted to see them combined, Magnaarn was not part of their plans, and his theft of the Doomstone made him their enemy.[8]

Lone Wolf journeyed to Lencia to infiltrate Magnaarn's stronghold of Shugkona and stop Magnaarn's plans. Lone Wolf discovered that Magnaarn had managed to retrieve the Doomstone,[1] and Lone Wolf was unable to resist its power as it weakened him, allowing Magnaarn to imprison and entomb him underground.[9] Lone Wolf managed to claw his way out, exhausted, and travelled to Darke, where he discovered that Magnaarn had successfully combined it with the Nyras Sceptre. However, Lone Wolf realised that Magnaarn was fearful and uncertain of the power of the Doomstone.[7] Magnaarn fled, but was pursued by Lone Wolf, and at the top of the Palace Tower, the Doomstone had nearly stripped Magnaarn of his life and transformed him into an undead.[10] The two fought, and Magnaarn was killed. As soon as Magnaarn died, the Nyras Sceptre exploded with such violence that Lone Wolf was knocked unconscious, and both Magnaarn and the Nyras Sceptre were completely destroyed.[11]

Had Lone Wolf not intervened, Magnaarn would have eventually been killed by the Doomstone's power. The Doomstone's power would have filled Magnaarn's body, turning it into a vessel to carry out Agarash's will in Magnamund, and would in effect have become an incredibly-powerful humanoid Agarashi. Lencia would have also been completely destroyed, and since the Nengud-kor-Adez sat underneath Kagorst, this may have triggered a new Darklands War, with Magnaarn as a new "Darklord".[6]
