Lone Wolf

Elzian is the capital of Dessi. It is a highly unusual city: big, but seemingly always deserted.[1] Given that there are fewer than 100 Elder Magi remaining during the time of the series,[2] and given that Elder Magi are inveterate shapeshifters with no fixed physical form, this is perhaps not surprising. Aside from the Elder Magi, the main inhabitants of the city are Vakeros.[3]

Elzian has a wide outer wall. There is a canal within the city encircling Elzian's tallest building, the Tower of Truth, where the High Council of the Elder Magi meet.[4]

In the Gamebooks[]

Although none of the gamebooks are set in Elzian, Lone Wolf spends a lot of time in the city. He first travels to Elzian during the events of Castle Death, as part of the Magnakai quest. It was at Elzian that Lord Rimoah first told Lone Wolf of the Lorestone of Herdos. After Lone Wolf retrieved the Lorestone, the Elder Magi acknowledged him as Skarn of the Koura-tas-kai prophecy. Taking advantage of the power vacuum left by Archlord Haakon's death at the end of Shadow on the Sand, they tutored Lone Wolf in lore and history.[5] This time of comparative peace came to an end after Gnaag won the Archlordship. Lone Wolf left Elzian during the events of The Jungle of Horrors to retrieve the Lorestone of Ohrido, and again during the events of The Cauldron of Fear to retrieve the Lorestone of Tahou. He never returned to Elzian for the remainder of the Magnakai and Grand Master series, when he was based at the Kai monastery in Sommerlund.

In the New Order series, Grand Master visits Elzian as part of his quest to return the Moonstone to the Shianti. The final sections of Voyage of the Moonstone and the beginning of The Buccaneers of Shadaki are set in Elzian. Grand Master has the opportunity to witness the ascension of an Elder to the Plane of Light before beginning his quest to the Isle of Lorn.
