Emolyria was a citadel of Lyris, in Northern Magnamund. It was a long-standing citadel of Lyris, lost to the forces of darkness during the Darklands War. It stood precariously on the edge of the Maakengorge, north of the Zaut.
Some time after the demise of Archlord Vashna, the Acolytes of Vashna took control of the city, constructing the settlement of Hegdagza-kor-Kotgek, and a massive underground fortress called Zekgazad underneath it, to rebuild Vashna's army in anticipation of his arrival, and to attempt to revive Vashna himself.
Emolyria was destroyed in MS 5102 after the Dagger of Vashna fell into the Maakengorge, causing the supernatural fires to rise and consume Emolyria for good.
It is the setting of Dead in the Deep.
History[]
Emolyria was an ancient city of Lyris, full of splendour. It was nicknamed "The New Varetta" and "The Jewel of the Golden Vale" in ballads.[1] It was decorated with dragons on its external walls.[2] A temple to Kai and Nyxator existed in one area of the city.[3] After the Maakengorge opened, however, the evil within the Maakengorge rendered anything within its range inhospitable (except for the forces of darkness), Emolyria included.
A small number of Agarashi had roamed the Zaut and Emolyria for centuries, but prior to MS 5102, the Maakengorge began to awake again. The Acolytes of Vashna started to gather near Emolyria, seemingly-allying themselves with the Agarashi,[1] in an attempt to revive their master, Archlord Vashna, and to build up his forces in anticipation of that arrival. To achieve this, they began excavating the rock under Emolyria, creating the settlement of Hegdagza-kor-Kotgek, and an underground fortress known as Zekgazad, harnessing the power of the Nengud-kor-Adez in the Maakengorge, no longer restricted to the moat surrounding Helgedad. Pilgrims eagerly began converging upon Emolyria, from across Magnamund, wishing to serve Vashna. Forces from the Darklands too arrived, seeking a new Darklord leader. Emolyria was also said to be patrolled by the largest swarm of Kraan since the Darklands War.[4]
In MS 5102, Lone Wolf sent Steel Hand on a quest to Emolyria, to discover and foil the plans of the Acolytes of Vashna. However, he was captured. Lone Wolf then sent Grand Master to complete his quest, and rescue Steel Hand during the events of Dead in the Deep. Grand Master was able to accomplish both; however, during the escape, Steel Hand was captured, and Luthos Vorgada attempted to perform a ritual to revive Archlord Vashna: He would attempt to spill the blood of Steel Hand (an ancestor of King Ulnar I) using the Dagger of Vashna, into the Nengud-kor-Adez. However, the power of the Grand Master's Nyxator Mail, temporarily-donated to Steel Hand, blocked the Dagger, allowing Steel Hand to throw both Vorgada and the Dagger into the Nengud-kor-Adez instead, destroying the Dagger of Vashna.
However, the Dagger's unmaking also served to awaken Vashna. The Lake of Blood surged upwards through the Maakengorge, as a spiritual form of Vashna was reborn. This surge of fire was enough to consume Emolyria into the Nengud-kor-Adez, destroying it for good.
