The Principality of Eru is a mountainous and forested country on the coast of the Tentarias in Northern Magnamund. While it has great mineral wealth, it is very sparsely populated and prior to the Battle of Cetza, the tiny Eruan army had been unable to defend against Drakkarim raids from the Hammerlands. It is part of the Stornlands, and its capital city is Humbold.
History[]
Founding[]
Eru was founded by the Vaderish, who settled the lands while fleeing the Agarashi Empire. However, they stumbled across an intersection between the Hellswamp and the barren Hardlands, and pursued by the Agarashi Empire, were forced to settle and make do. However, throughout its history, it is constantly raided by the Agarashi of the Hellswamp,[1] and the nearby Drakkarim nations.[3]
Darklands War[]
In MS 5062, during the Darklands War, Eru was invaded by the Hammerlands, who seized Cetza and Luomi, slaughtered its citizens, looted and burnt the Temple of Luomi, and captured the Lorestone of Luomi, which was taken to Torgar. In the Battle of Cetza, Eru, together with its ally Lencia, fought the Hammerlanders, recaptured Cetza and Luomi, and drove them back to the Hammerlands.[4]
Buoyed by their victories, the combined forces invaded the Hammerlands proper, and captured Blackshroud. However, they did not realise that the Darklords now possessed the Tanoz-tukor, allowing them to lead their armies outside of the Darklands, and were thus overextended. They faced significant assaults from the Darklands, and were only bailed out by Banedon.[5] The Eru-Lencia forces were forced to take refuge in Bor, and their Hammerlands gains were wiped out by Darklords Tomogh and Dakushna by MS 5064. The Darklords attempted to invade the tunnels of Bor, but were repelled by Nolrim and Captain Prarg. The two Darklords instead turned towards Western Eru, which fell easily, with their leader, Sebb Jarel, having died earlier in the war.[6]
By MS 5066, Eru had fallen in full, thanks to Darklords Dakushna and Mrugor.[7] Eru was liberated in MS 5070, when Lone Wolf slew Archlord Gnaag and destroyed the Transfusor powering the Tanoz-tukor, destroying the Darklords for good.
Post-Darklands War[]
In MS 5090, Eru's ally, Lencia, invaded Nyras. However, Warmarshal Ranghor forced them out of Nyras, with King Sarnac III killed. Ranghor and his former lieutenant, Ghangrim, fought a civil war for control. King Telnac of Lencia, Sarnac III's successor, was warned of an Agarashi invasion, and retreated from his conquest of the Drakkarim nations. Ranghor, sensing weakness, invaded Lencia, seized Helmstorm, and killed Telnac on the battlefield. Prince Sarnac, his heir, fled into exile, but returned in MS 5101, with a combined Freelands force from Eru, Lencia, Kasland, Boden and Bor, seizing Helmstorm back, and Prince Sarnac was crowned King. However, an Eruan pathfinder reported that Ghangrim's Nadziranim had created Gazadjeza,[8] a machine of great power, and the Freelands forces invaded Darke in response. They were victorious, capturing Darke and renaming it "Gamir", its ancient Lencian title. Lencia continued to push, invading Nyras and [Nyvoz]], and razed Kagorst.[9]
In MS 5102, Eruan Pathfinders discovered a plot by the Agarashi, led by Swamplord Vag'kroag, were planning on invading Northern Lencia. However, Vag'kroag mysteriously disappeared before the assault, as he had been captured by the Naarvakim to rebuild Agarash.[10]
Geography[]
Eru has a harsh climate and terrain, but is rich in resources, the only reason why it is a viable country.[11]
It is bordered by the Hellswamp to the north and west, the mountains of Bor to the east, and lies on the northern coast of the Tentarias. The north-east passage leads to the Isle of Ghosts and the border town of Cetza, leading to The Hammerlands. Opposite the Tentarias lies Lencia, Eru's ally.
Politics[]
Eru is a principality, ruled by a Prince.
Known rulers of Eru[]
- Prince Graygor (during MS 5000–present[3])
Economy[]
Eru is rich in resources, but its climate and terrain are hostile, limiting its wealth.[11] Its primary exports are iron ore, copper, tin, gold and gems.[1]
Demographics[]
Eru is a small country, with a population of about 13,000 in MS 5050.[1] A third of the population lives in its capital, Humbold, with a long tail population distribution in other settlements such as Luomi, Pirsi, Sharwarn, Testla, Foamfork and Blent.[3]
In the gamebooks[]
Eru is only visited in The Dungeons of Torgar, where it is the setting of the first arc of the book, as the player journeys from Eru, disguised as an Eruan Pathfinder, to Torgar. The player may take part in the Battle of Cetza alongside Prince Graygor of Eru. and King Sarnac of Lencia.
