The Collector's Edition of Flight from the Dark (also referred to as the Extended Edition) is a rewrite of the original book of the same name, originally written by Joe Dever in 2007. It features an increased number of sections (550 instead of the standard 350) and expanded detail. It expands on the original with new encounters, new characters, and alternate branching paths, such as being able to participate in the defense of the Kai Monastery.[1]
To celebrate the release of the Definitive Editions, Holmgard Press further rebalanced and edited the rewrite, and commissioned forty brand-new full-page illustrations from NERDGORE to accompany it. It was released as a collectable hardback book, like other Definitive Editions.[1]
Plot[]
Lone Wolf valiantly fights a Giak chieftain atop the Tower of the Sun, as below the Kai lords make a desperate last stand against the overwhelming forces of the Darklord Zagarna. This is the cover of the brand new version of Flight From the Dark by Joe Dever, as illustrated by Alberto Dal Lago.
Changes[]
The rewritten story is an extended "director's cut" of the original, extensively rewritten by Joe Dever himself. It also features a brand new cover and original interior art from industry professional Rich Longmore.
Lone Wolf does not start the adventure waking from unconsciousness to discover the Kai Monastery in ruins - instead, he is present when the Darklords attack, fighting alongside his Kai masters in what will be their last battle. Lone Wolf helps clear Giak and Drakkarim assault troops from the monastery halls, defends the battlements as wave upon wave of Kraan come sweeping in to attack, fights his way to the top of the Tower of the Sun to trigger the beacon that will warn Sommerlund that the invasion has begun, and escapes through the secret tunnel in the Grand Master's vault that will take him to the relative safety of the surrounding forest.
