Ghargon is a domain within the Darklands. It was ruled by Darklord Ghurch, although Darklord Tomogh controlled it in practice while Ghurch spent most of his time in his compound in Helgedad.

History[]

The land of Ghargon has been the site of many battles between creatures of evil for centuries. During the time of Archlord Zagarna, it was invaded by hordes of Grolth from the Tadatizaga, and the Shog'aash beneath the Lake Ghargon. Also during this time, it was ruled by Darklords Ghurch and Tomogh.[1]

Not much is known about Ghargon after this. However, after Darklord Ghurch's death in MS 5058, caused by Darklord Gnaag seizing control in a show of power, the Shog'aash is still a threat.[2]

Geography[]

Ghargon is located on the eastern border of the Darklands, bordering the Tadatizaga. A massive lake, Lake Ghargon, lies on the border of Ghargon, with the city-fortress of Gournen overlooking it. The Shog'aash lives in the Lake, and terrorises the denizens of Gournen, as well as the wider province of Ghargon.[2]

During the rule of Archlord Zagarna, it had 30,000 Drakkarim, 40,000 Mountain Giaks, and over 10,000 Giak slaves.[1]

Politics[]

During the time of Archlord Zagarna, Ghargon was ruled by Darklords Ghurch and Tomogh. Ghurch was the ruler of the province, but he chose to spend most of his time in his compound in Helgedad, preferring being close to the seat of power of the Archlord. Tomogh was the ruler of the fortress of Gournen, but in Ghurch's absence, Tomogh was the true ruler. Tomogh, however, spent most of his time hunting the Shog'aash. As such, day-to-day control was left in the hands of Trogh, a Xaghash.[1]

Design[]

In the first edition of The Darklands, Gournen was previously a neighbouring domain, ruled by Darklord Tomogh.[3] In the second edition, it was made part of Ghargon, with Tomogh and Ghurch sharing control of Ghargon.
