Lone Wolf

Meeting King Sarnac in The Dungeons of Torgar is simple enough. And even if you don't actually meet him in this book, you can still have the chance to at least see him.

I. Meeting King Sarnac[]

Start at the beginning with Section 1. You are met by Prince Graygor, who's the only person in these parts who knows of your disguise as an Eruan Pathfinder. He offers you two possible routes to reaching Torgar, one of which is accompanying him on the upcoming Battle of Cetza.

  • Accompany Prince Graygor to battle at Cetza (308)

You will reach Cetza along with the combined armies of Graygor and his ally King Sarnac. The night before the Battle, Graygor and Sarnac will meet to draw up battle plans for the next day, Graygor invites you to come along.

  • Accompany the Prince to King Sarnac’s headquarters (244)

And that's it. You meet King Sarnac. You'll meet him in later books, but none of them try to determine if you already met him in this book. That's because there's nothing remarkable about this first meeting from Sarnac's POV. You're disguised the entire time as an Eruan Pathfinder, and Sarnac never discovers your true identity.

II. Seeing King Sarnac[]

If you:

  • choose to decline the invitation (90)

you won't meet Sarnac in this book. But you can still get a chance to at least see him in this book. All you have to do in the upcoming battle is to avoid killing the leader of the enemy Hammerland army, Baron Shinzar. Because if you don't kill him, Sarnac will, and you'll get to watch him do it.

Inevitably, you'll find yourself in Section 155, where you find yourself near Baron Shinzar. There are three branches you can go from here, whether or not you have a bow, and how well (using the Random Number Table) you fire it. But all three branches lead to the same two choices: whether or not you have the Sommerswerd.

  • If you do not possess this Special Item (126)

then fighting Shinzar won't be an issue. You'll fight his patrol of Krorn instead, and if you survive that combat (by either winning or evading), you get to see Sarnac slay Shinzar.

  • If you possess the Sommerswerd (113)

then you will fight Shinzar in combat. However, you have the opportunity to evade combat.

  • Evade combat after three rounds (229)

and watch Sarnac kick Shinzar's butt.

But if you meet King Sarnac in this book, while it's still possible you'll meet Captain Prarg and even possible you'll meet Roark and Tagazin, you will not meet Sebb Jarel.
