Kadan is the capital and city-port of the Zultanate of Cloeasia. It sits close to the border with Durenor, overlooking the Kuri Sea and the Lakuri Isles.
Geography[]
Kadan is situated on a rocky bay, on white cliffs overlooking the warm, turquoise Kuri Sea.[1]
Architecture[]
Much of Kadan is ancient, and has existed long before the first Sommlending arrived in Northern Magnamund, giving it an exotic look to the rest of the Lastlands. Kadan's buildings are made of sandstone and painted in white plaster. Compared with Sommlending cities, buildings in Kadan are generally smaller and more densely-packed. Some buildings have red tiled roofs, a style borrowed from Cloeasia's allies in the Freelands, but most have a dome and onion-shaped spire, similar to the Anari.[1]
History[]
Prior to modern-day Cloeasia, Kadan was once the coastal settlement of an Elder Magi town known as Kharda, but became a ruin later.[1]
Between MS 1755 and MS 2950, Vassagonian nomads created tent cities that slowly became permanent settlements. Zultan Grazhali — dubbed The Unifier of Cloeasia in Vassagonian — established a benign dictatorship in the city of Kadan, which had been the largest of all the Cloeasian tented settlements, on the ancient ruins of Kharda. Like Kharda, it prospered, due to the plentiful fish in this region, a pure source of fresh water from underground aquifers, and its natural harbor. Eventually, Kadan became the principal city of Oresta, dwarfing the other inland cities by comparison.[1]
In MS 5077, it is still the seat of power of the Zultan, but also of the most infamous Assassins' Guild of the Freelands.[1]
