Kai-screen

Kai-screen is a Kai Grand Master Discipline. During psychic combat, Grand Masters are able to construct mind-fortresses capable of protecting themselves and others. The strength and capacity of these fortresses increase as a Grand Master advances in rank. It is an improved discipline of the Magnakai Discipline Psi-screen and Kai Discipline Mindshield.

On higher ranks, the benefits gained from this discipline is as follows:

Kai Grand-Guardian: Kai Grand Guardians are able to exercise a defensive psychic skill known as Mindblend. This cloaking ability enables them to both protect and hide their minds from being detected by a hostile psychic probe.

Sun Thane: Sun Thanes are able to erect a special psychic defence called Mindfort. A Mindfort defence greatly reduces the effects of any psychic shock that would normally paralyse or weaken a lesser mortal.

Grand Thane (for New Order series only): Grand Thanes can absorb and transform psychic attacks into positive physical effect. Lost EPs can be restored when subjected to a psychic attack. The number and rate restored varies and increases as they increases in rank.

Grand Crown: Grand Crowns are able to mask the goodly aura which radiates naturally from their minds and bodies. Additionally, Grand Crowns can deliberately alter these auras to give a false impression of themselves to creatures that are sensitive to such psychic auras.

Sun Prince: Sun Princes who possess this Discipline are able to create a mental sanctuary in which to keep safe their minds from psychic assault. Creation of this sanctuary does not require thought or concentration; it occurs instantly whenever a Kai Sun Prince is subjected to psychic attack.

Usage

Broadly speaking, Kai-screen does nothing except to reduce EP loss when under psychic attack. It is quite common to come under psychic attack, but because EP loss can be compensated for with disciplines like Deliverance, Kai-screen is a relatively-less useful discipline. Less frequently, Kai-screen can also stop hostile psychic probes (which can lead to instant death if failed), as well as provide a direct combat bonus in psychic combats.

In the New Order series, at rank Grand Thane or higher, Kai-screen becomes quite powerful precisely because it is quite common to come under psychic attack, which makes the discipline an unexpectedly good source of EP.
