Legends of Lone Wolf is a series of novels written to expand upon the gamebook stories of Lone Wolf by Joe Dever together with John Grant. Twelve volumes were written, expanding on the core gamebooks.
Canonicity[]
The canonicity of the series is disputed amongst fans. The Legends of Lone Wolf series differs slightly from the gamebooks, sometimes in minor details, but sometimes with major differences.
Complicating this is Alyss, a character that appeared first (in real-world terms) in the Legends of Lone Wolf series, but only appeared in the gamebooks very late-on, in The Legacy of Vashna.
Dever's stance is that since the gamebook series has always preceded the Legends of Lone Wolf series, the gamebooks take precedence. Additionally, Dever and Grant did not agree on all the events in Legends of Lone Wolf. For example, in The Sacrifice of Ruanon, Grant outlined a future history of Magnamund in the epilogue that did not fit Dever's vision.[1]
