An M'lare Crystal is a gem that was used to imprison Ice Demons during the Age of Awakening. One can be acquired by Grand Master in The Dusk of Eternal Night.

History[]

During the Age of Awakening, the Ancients of Kalte used M'Lare Crystals to imprison the Ice Demons. When applied to a Psychomantic user, it slowly drains their memory, and stores their Mindforce as pure energy.[1]

In the gamebooks[]

An M'lare Crystal can be acquired by Grand Master if they choose to explore Shasarak's lair in The Dusk of Eternal Night. One of the paths from the Shianti Power Cube leads to a cavern containing M'lare Crystals. This cavern slowly drains Grand Master's memories without them realising.[1]

Eventually, Grand Master realises they are in danger, and tries to escape. A Random Number must be picked: A Grey Crystal Ring or Kai-screen adds +1, Kai-screen at Sun Lord or higher adds +2, Kai-screen at Sun Prince adds +3, Elementalism at Sun Prince adds +2, and wearing Crocaryxa adds +1. If the result is:

  • 0-3: Grand Master loses 2 Combat Skill, 4 Endurance points, and forfeits the use of their last-learnt Grand Master Discipline learnt
  • 4-6: Grand Master loses 1 Combat Skill and 4 Endurance points
  • 7 or more: Grand Master loses 2 Endurance points

As Grand Master escapes, they may take one M'lare Crystal, but it must be stored in such a way that protects themselves and their allies. This can be achieved if Grand Master has Elementalism and has reached the rank of Sun Prince, or possesses a Drodarin Bag of Holding.

The M'lare Crystal can be used against the following foes:

  • A Deathgaunt in the same lair, in a different chamber. This avoids a potential roll of death (which can also be prevented by other skills and ranks, especially in combination with Zaaryxa);[2] however, Grand Master must engage the Deathgaunt in psychic combat.[3]
  • Against Blazer, possessed by the powers of an Ice Demon. Using the M'lare Crystal temporarily halts the possession, breaking Blazer out of his trance, although Shasarak destroys the M'lare Crystal before it can be fully purged.[4]
