Maarkaag, dubbed The Province of Blades, is a Darklands realm home to some of the greatest metalworkers within the Darklands. It is most known for its citadel-city, Kaag, which dwarfs all other settlements within Maarkaag, and is one of the most powerful cities within the Darklands. It was ruled by Darklords Zagarna and Slûtar.

Geography[]
Maarkaag is located to the east of the Darklands, although not quite as east as Aargataag. The vast majority of Maarkaag's population (200,000 during the time of Archlord Zagarna, including 30,000 Drakkarim, 60,000 Mountain Giaks, and 40,000 Giak slaves) lives in its main city, Kaag.

Design[]
In the first edition of The Darklands, Maarkaag's population was a mere 15,000.[1] The second edition increased this to 200,000, and added more lore about its history and appearance. Additionally, Kurzanaar Pass was the largest fortress in Maarkaag — this appears to have been moved to Aargataag in the second edition.[2][1]
