Mazrah is the guildmaster of the Assassin's Guild of Cloeasia. A shadowy figure concerned most with his own profit, he rules Cloeasia from the side by controlling its Zultan.
Personality[]
Mazrah is courageous,[1] careful, clever, far-sighted, and places his own self-interests above everything else.[2] Mazrah began planning for the death of the Zultan of Cloeasia more than a decade in advance, and showed no mercy in ordering the massacre of the Bonemen.
Appearances[]
Mazrah does not appear in any of the gamebooks, but does appear elsewhere.
The Tellings[]
In The Tellings, part of the Legends of Lone Wolf series, Viveka travels to Kadan as a representative of the Bonemen to treat with Mazrah. Although the Zultan is the nominal ruler of Cloeasia, Mazrah is the real power behind the scenes. Viveka finds Mazrah's assassins very clumsy, and kills several of them before gaining an audience with Mazrah. Mazrah offers the Bonemen a very good deal: he promises to recognize the Bonemen's claim to the plains near the Bone Hills, access to the port at Lujar, and even offers to let the Bonemen develop a cove near Lujar should the port at Lujar fail to suffice for their needs. In return he only asks that the Bonemen stay away from Kadan and Kuchek - something that the Bonemen are likely to do anyway. The Bonemen's leader, Lackan, recognizes the deal as too good to be true, and accurately discerns that Mazrah's best option was probably to destroy the Bonemen immediately. Lackan however fails to realize how fast Mazrah would act. Mazrah had in fact sent scores of warriors to follow Viveka back to the Bonemen's camp, and took advantage of the Bonemen's well-known aversion to the night to attack the camp. The Bonemen were massacred, with Viveka only escaping the massacre because she had left in a huff after an argument with Lackan.
Viveka realized afterwards that Mazrah would quickly discover (by combing through the corpses) that she had survived the massacre, and since Mazrah was well aware of her deadly skills, would also be fearful of her. She swore to send Mazrah threatening messages to let him know she still remembers the massacre, and will one day take revenge.
The Skull of Agarash[]
Mazrah features as a main character in The Skull of Agarash, set in MS 5077. This is much later than the events described in The Tellings, implying that Mazrah either survived Viveka's wrath, or Viveka did not attempt to exact revenge.[3]
In The Skull of Agarash, Lone Wolf travels to the Cloeasian capital of Kadan in search of information as to where pirate raider Captain Khadro had taken Lord Rimoah. He is directed to Mazrah, who not only knows where Captain Khadro's base is, but volunteers to take Lone Wolf there himself. Mazrah reveals that Khadro had killed two of his sons and he is seeking revenge. Mazrah is further pleased when Lone Wolf says that he does not want any portion of the riches that Captain Khadro had looted.
Mazrah commands three ships to head to Kita Cove. They are attacked along the way by a massive sea serpent. Although Lone Wolf kills the sea serpent, it had destroyed two of Mazrah's ships, and Mazrah is almost tempted to return until persuaded by Lone Wolf to keep going. On Kita Cove itself, Mazrah leads a landing party along with Lone Wolf to Captain Khadro's base. The party is attacked multiple times along the way, and Mazrah is one of six survivors. When they finally arrive at Captain Khadro's base, Mazrah starts a distraction while Lone Wolf searches for Rimoah. Mazrah's distraction is very successful and the base goes up in flames; he further arrives just in time to save Lone Wolf, who had been surprised by Captain Khadro. Mazrah and his men secure one of Khadro's ships and return to Kadan with the loot. Lone Wolf praises Mazrah for his courage and resolve prior to leaving Kadan.
