Ozdaraga, dubbed The Province of Black Sand, was a Darklands realm where most mining activity takes place within the Darklands. It was the second-largest realm in the Darklands (after Yr-Naoga).

Its sole appearance is in the first edition of The Darklands. It was retconned out of existence in the second edition.

Geography[]

Ozdaraga's location was unknown, although it is implied that it was close to the Nengud-kor-Adez and thus Helgedad, as sometimes mining activity could breach into it. It was the second-largest realm in the Darklands, after Yr-Naoga, mostly populated by mining camps. It lacks defenses, as it was well-shielded by its neighbours, and resources would be better-used elsewhere.[1]

Ozdaraga was blackened and scarred due to the effect of so many mass excavations. Sometimes, when the mining breached the Nengud-kor-Adez, fire lit up the sky.[1]

Politics[]

Ozdaraga's importance was of vital importance to the Darklands, as it produced most of the ore required in the Darklands. As such, it was ruled by Helgedad directly. Day-to-day operations were run by the Master of Operations; during the time of Archlord Zagarna, this was Traath, a Xaghash of great power.[1]

Ozdaraga's population was mostly slaves and Giaks, who serve as miners, with Drakkarim overseers. Over 60,000 slaves toiled day and night mining in Ordazaga, mining ore and coal. Slaves were treated badly in Ozdaraga if quotas were not met, but may have been be treated well if they were, since mining cannot be taught beyond a certain point, making effective slaves valuable. Dead slaves were simply thrown into the mines to feed the wild beasts that roamed the land unchecked.[1]

History[]

Not much is known about Ozdaraga in terms of history, including after the demise of the Darklords in MS 5070.

Design[]

Ozdaraga makes its only appearance in the first edition of The Darklands. It was retconned out of existence in the second edition. However, it bears similarities to Iznogdazokim (formerly known as Orlo Taanak in the first edition), from its usage as a mining realm, and it being the second-largest realm after Yr-Naoga.
