Paido is a warrior-magician from the southern land of Dessi, from the folk of the Vakeros, allies of the Elder Magi.

Appearances[]

Castle Death[]

Rimoah introduces Lone Wolf to Paido at the start of Lone Wolf's quest for the Lorestone of Herdos. Paido serves as his guide to the Isle of Khor, to Kazan-Oud, but does not follow Lone Wolf into the fortress.

The Jungle of Horrors[]

Paido is once again appointed as Lone Wolf's guide, this time to the Danarg swamp in search of the Lorestone of Ohrido. Paido is shown to be a capable companion with magical powers: depending on the path Lone Wolf takes, he uses his magic against Kezoor the Necromancer, or a Talestrian miller. If Lone Wolf ventures into Tharro, Paido eats poisoned stew at the Temple of the Sword, and is rendered unconscious as Lone Wolf battles the Helghast that had impersonated the head monk. In this case, it is shown that the sword Paido wields is capable of wounding Helghast. Paido will die if Lone Wolf has neither a Laumspur potion or the Magnakai discipline Curing, in which case a grief-stricken Lone Wolf goes to take revenge on the monks, but is killed by Bor rifles, ending the adventure.

If Paido survives, he helps Lone Wolf locate the Temple of Ohrido within the Danarg using a starguider, and also operates the Levitron (a flying ship) that they use to leave the Danarg. During the return flight to Dessi, however, the Levitron is attacked by Vordaks and Paido is captured.

The Dungeons of Torgar[]

Paido resurfaces again in The Dungeons of Torgar, as a prisoner of the Darkland forces. It is shown that he has suffered considerably, and his body is covered with scars and dried blood. However, he is still strong in spirit and helps Lone Wolf retrieve the remaining three Lorestones. Nonetheless, the reunion is brief: after Lone Wolf is thrown into the Shadow Gate, Paido is slain by Gnaag, and his soul is condemned to the Plane of Darkness.

The Curse of Naar[]

Paido's soul finds Lone Wolf as the latter is traversing the domain of Avarvae the Tormentress, along with the souls of Lord Adamas and Sebb Jarel. Lone Wolf recognizes them and frees them, either via a Kai Exorcism or by a prayer to the god Kai. This act frees the three men's souls, and they travel to the Plane of Light to seek eternal peace.
