Lone Wolf

The Republic of Palmyrion is a country in Northern Magnamund. It is a staunch ally of Talestria.

History[]

Early history[]

Palmyrion was founded by an unprecendented union between the Vaderish and Aluvian tribesmen who set aside their differences and tried to find a way to co-exist, founding Palmyrion. After a century of its founding, the tribal divisions had vanished. Its first millennia was full of conflict, although Palmyrion survived and built significant border defences that serve Palmyrion today. These walls and watchtowers became marvels of engineering. These defences also kept Palmyrion safe during the Helghast Wars and the rise of the Black Muster.[3]

Due to its safety, it is considered the grandest nation south of Sommerlund.[3] It is a staunch ally of Talestria, a neighbour but also a country suffering from instability.[3] It has come to Talestria's aid multiple times in millennia. According to Lone Wolf: The Roleplaying Game, in MS 2650, together with Bor, it first came to Talestria's aid against Ogia, in the Battle of Gornest Valley.[4]

Darklands War[]

In MS 5060, during the events of The Jungle of Horrors, Darklord Gnaag became Archlord, and the forces of Darkness began to mobilise. Talestria was attacked by Warlord Zegron of Xanar, Ogia, in far greater numbers that Talestria had ever experienced, and Zegron's forces destroyed Luukos.[5] Palmyrion and Bor answered Talestria's call for aid, and eventually defeated Zegron after four days. The combined forces, led by Lord Adamas of Talestria, marched on, conquering Xanar, battling Darklords Kraagenskûl and Chlanzor in the Battle of Zuttezna, and finally marching on Torgar, to rescue captured Talestrian slaves.[6] However, the combined forces were defeated and routed by a surprise appearance by Darklord Gnaag: The Darklords had long been confined to the Darklands, as the air of Magnamund was poisonous to them, but in secret, Gnaag's Nadziranim created the Tanoz-tukor, allowing them to travel outside of it — and at Torgar, Gnaag revealed this to the world.[7][8]

Severely-weakened, Palmyrion was unable to withstand the Darklands forces, now led by the Darklords themselves. Palmyrion was finally conquered some time between MS 5065 and MS 5070, by Darklords Chlanzor and Menashga.[9] The Darklords were finally defeated in MS 5070, during the events of The Masters of Darkness, when Lone Wolf destroyed the Transfusor powering the Tanoz-tukor, destroying the Darklords in turn.

The New Age of War[]

In MS 5096, Talestria was attacked by a combined Magador-Ogia force, and Palmyrion marched to her aid once again, defeating them in the Second Battle of Luukos. However, this was a prelude to a new wave of Darkness over Magnamund. In MS 5102, the Cener Druids of Ruel attacked Slovia, and a plague was unleashed on Palmyrion, forcing the Herbwardens of Bautar to help. That same year, Talestria was raided by ferocious swamp creatures from the Danarg, and Palmyrion was unable to help; in their stead, Sommerlund commited a portion of its forces to help. In the hestangor of MS 5102, the Thalis Altar was destroyed by Eldenoran mercenaries. The destruction of the Altar allowed the Cener Druids to perform an evil ritual, awakening corrupted spores that lay under the ground in the Cursed Plain south of Vanamor, covering it in poisonous flora and effectively extending the cursed Forest of Ruel.[10][11]

In the Fehangor of MS 5103, a horde of Agarashi invaded Talestria from the Danarg, striking all the border forts and towers. One push saw the Agarashi reach the border with Palmyrion. In the Hestangor of that year, the Battle of the Syad Bridges was won by Palmyrion and Talestria, who began a counter-attack.[12]

In MS 5000 and MS 5050, its population was about 126,000.[3][1]

In the gamebooks[]

Palmyrion is first visited in The Plague Lords of Ruel, where the player arrives in Palmyrion to plan an infiltration of Ruel, to stop a deadly plague virus from being released.

Palmyrion is also visited in Dawn of the Dragons, as the player rushes home from Lencia to Sommerlund. The player will be reunited with Cearmaine (if they played through The Plague Lords of Ruel).[15] From Palmyrion's capital, Vanamor, the player and Cearmaine will travel to Casiorn, where a sky-ship awaits to take the player back to Sommerlund.
