Lone Wolf

The Plain of Despair is a plain that surrounds the Dark God Naar's fortress, Dazganon on the Plane of Darkness. It is guarded by Tzor, who chases and torments the souls of the champions of darkness that failed in their goals.

Known inhabitants[]

Tzor is the guard of the Plain of Darkness. He relentlessly torments the following:

Some champions of darkness avoided having their souls trapped in the Plain of Despair after their deaths:

In the gamebooks[]

During the events of The Curse of Naar, Lone Wolf enters the Plain of Despair to enter Dazganon, retrieve the Moonstone and save Alyss. He encounters Tzor, and sees the spirits of various foes he had slain in the past.[1][2]

Lone Wolf must then evade detection from Tzor's potent psychic powers: Kai-screen at Grand Crown or higher allows Lone Wolf to mask his goodly aura, preventing detection.[6] Otherwise, Lone Wolf will attempt to evade detection using Kai-screen[7] or Psi-screen[8], and a Random Number table roll must be performed:

  • Endurance greater than 16: +1
  • Endurance less than 10: -1
  • Kai-screen (not at Grand Crown or higher) reduces the requirement by 1

If the roll fails, Lone Wolf is detected, set upon by the souls of those he slew, and destined to spend all eternity tormented by Tzor. Otherwise, Lone Wolf can enter Dazganon unscathed — although he must possess:[6][9]

These items, along with the Tome of Darkness, are erased when entering Dazganon. However, if Lone Wolf does not possess all these items, he is destined to spend eternity being tormented by Tzor.

Regarding the fate of the Darklords in #the-lore-hall of The World of LONE WOLFVincent Lazzari on Discord, 2024-06-03.
"I can assure you that this specific scene in LW20, in the Plain of Despair, did not feature all the villains Lone Wolf canonically slew during his adventures. Simply because there are too many spirits who were specifically punished by Naar for their failures, Lone Wolf couldn't see all of them. And so, among them, you do have Darklord Zagarna, even if not mentioned. As well as the other Darklords that Lone Wolf didn't know personally (considering Claws of Helgedad is not canon in the main continuity). All were judged supreme failures by Naar and punished the same way - this is the fate of the champions of Darkness who don't succeed in their conquests. You can think about all the major servants of the God Naar slain by Lone Wolf - they are here, somewhere in the Plain of Despair, suffering terrible tortures. Cadak was a notable exception, his soul being sold and bound to the Lords of Decay."
