Lone Wolf

Searsheld is a town in the Royal Estates of Sommerlund. It was established where the Drakkarim fortress of Dejgazad once stood.

History[]

See also: Dejgazad

Searsheld was established around MS 3435, soon after the foundation of Holmgard, on the hill where Dejgazad once stood.[1][note 1] Before it was a town, it was nicknamed the "Town of Beers" due to the variety of beers and stouts brewed in the area.

During the Helghast Wars (MS 3520–3550), a Helghast impersonating Tor Valkaven, one of the main instigators of chaos within Sommerlund, was tracked-down and slain near Searsheld.[2]

During the events of Book of Kai Legends, a group of Kai Lords were sent to Searsheld to investigate disturbances in the region. A large family of reprobates, the Bognors, were responsible for multiple thefts, brawls, frauds and a suspected kidnapping of a local girl, Clarys. Despite the orders of Mayor Treynor banning the Bognors from Searsheld, the garrison there was hard-pressed to stop the Bognors from carrying out their activities. Due to the number of incidents, some townsfolk believed, without hard evidence, that the Bognors had placed a "Searsheld curse" upon the town, responsible for other minor incidents such as the souring of milk, the stillborn birth of a farmer's calf, and some bottles of wine at the tavern being turned into vinegar. The Kai Lords diffused the tension between the Bognors and Searsheld (possibly, depending on the actions of the player, by attacking the Bognors and forcing them to surrender and leave the region). Clarys was also revealed to have fallen in love with Stelan, one of the Bognors, and left her parents without telling them, knowing that they would never have accepted her marriage to someone from the Holmgard Pale.[3]

During MS 5000, Sommerlund began to increase its focus on defending against the Darklands, leading to settlements such as Searsheld being neglected from being defended against bandits.

Also around MS 5000, various minor tremors shook the region.

During the fehangor of MS 5104, Sommerlund fought the forces of the Darklords at Searsheld. As Sommerlund seemed poised to win, the Ziranoknar arrived, and proved to be far more magically-potent than any foe they had ever faced, including Kai Grand Master Star Lynx.[4] The Ziranoknar later disappeared during battle and reappeared at Dessi,[5] and the New Order of the Kai struck in its absence, securing a resounding victory.[6]

Geography[]

Searsheld is a town is located in the Royal Estates, in the west of Sommerlund. Like other settlements within the Royal Estates, it is much smaller than the capital, Holmgard, although Searsheld is the second-largest settlement. It is located north-west of Holmgard and west of the Graveyard of the Ancients. The road from Holmgard eventually leads further west to Fort Durnspa, with a trail that forks south-west to Tower Zil.

Politics[]

In MS 5000, Searsheld was part of the estate of Count Aron Silsher. It was run by Mayor Treynor, and was defended by a garrison of soldiers from the Army of the North.

Economy[]

Searsheld is known for its beers and stouts. A friendly rivalry exists with Swanford in the Southlund Marches, also famous for its beer and porters. A beer festival takes place in the first week of Berkano.
