Shindaar

Shindaar is an underground labyrinth in Shebnar's Sector, beneath Helgedad. It was used by Darklord Shebnar as a torture chamber.

Appearance

Shindaar is an underground labyrinth, containing cells, residence halls and private torture rooms called Shadow Chambers. It is laid out in confusion fashion, designed to drive those within mad after they get lost within the scream-filled passages.

Darklord Shebnar, who ruled the city, was obsessed with pain and torture, and used Shindaar to experiment on new forms of torture. Other Darklords sometimes sent prisoners to Shebnar to be tortured, something Shebnar relished. It is said that the pain caused by the Nengud-kor-Adez was nothing compared to the torture endured by those within Shindaar. Shebnaar's obsession was not limited to others; he subjected himself to these tortures to understand it better.

In the middle of Shindaar lay the Room of Agony, where Shindaar could listen to all the screams caused by his acolytes, and he shared in their pain with the power of dark magic.

Design

In the first edition of The Darklands, Shindaar was the capital of Barazoth, initially a separate domain for Shindaar. This was retconned in the second edition, with Shebnar being made a Lord of Helgedad, and Shindaar was relocated beneath his domain in Helgedad, Shebnar's Sector.
