The Kingdom of Siyen is a country in Southern Magnamund. Its capital is Seroa.

Geography[]

Siyen is mostly surrounded by mountain ranges, shielding it from the Doomlands of Naaros to the south-west and the Sadi Desert to the east. A narrow trail to the south, the Trail of the Damned, leads towards Bhanar and Chai. The other half is demarcated by the rivers Iona to the west and Dwerlir to the north, bordering Lunarlia and Rezovia respectively. The River Dwerlir leads to the Midsea, a bay in the Tentarias, facing Bautar and Valerion.

Siyen is rich in natural resources.[1]

History[]

Siyen was founded by the Nael peoples during their migration eastward. It was once a part of Klarnos, a vast empire that began on the western coast of Magnamund. As an independent nation, it took advantage of its abundant natural resources and control over the Tentarias. Early Siyen flourished, due to excellent management of these resources. After the [{Great Plains War]], Siyen was separated from Klarnos by the Union of Lunarlia.[1][2]

Siyen has long-prioritised peace and diplomacy, occasionally to its own detriment. During the Great Civil War, displaced militia from other countries entered Siyen, which was unable to enforce its borders properly due to a lack of a strong standing navy and army. Since then, Siyen has maintained a strong military presence despite its diplomatic stance.[2]

Siyen and northern Shadaki persecuted the Holy Fathers of the Truth, in MS 1961, they were driven out of these countries, forcing them to settle in the jungles and hills of Valerion.[3]

In MS 3856, Siyen entered into an alliance with Rezovia, which is the country's only alliance.[3] This alliance was seen as strange, as the two countries never got along with one another, with Rezovia once being a notorious nation of pirates, terrorising the Tentarias. The treaty between Siyen and Rezovia was signed after Rezovia's piracy got to the point where multiple nations began to fight back, and Rezovia realised they could not hold out against multiple enemies forever.[4] Since the signing of the treaty, Rezovia has been uncharacteristically calm, and piracy in the shared Tentarias has vanished. Some wondered whether — and what — leverage Siyen has over Rezovia.[2] Lunarlia remains on high alert, however, as they do not believe Rezovia would have embraced peace without a good reason.[4]

In MS 5083, during the events of Mydnight's Hero, King Oridon of Siyen was assassinated by the Assassin's Guild of Avalar, under an agreement with Baron Sadanzo.[5] Baron Sadanzo seized power, but was prevented from taking full control by a 60-day interregnum, where Oridon's true heir, Prince Karvas, could rightfully-claim what was his. However, Karvas had chosen to exile himself long before this point. Grand Master was sent to find Prince Karvas and put him on the throne before Sadanzo, believed to be an agent of Naar, could formally become king. Grand Master was successful in this quest, and Sadanzo was arrested and sentenced to death.[6]

In MS 5091, between 8,000–12,000 Agarashi emerged from the Darkwall Mountains to the south-west, and invaded Siyen. They destroyed the city of Varedo before they were driven back.[7]

In MS 5102, Cavalia, on the border with Lunarlia, attempted to secede from Siyen. Baron Mezimax, suspected to be a former follower of Baron Sadanzo, took advantage of the destruction of Varedo and pledged his allegiance to Klarnos, the Siyen's ancient suzerain. King Karvas prepared to quell the rebellion, raising his forces, but this also stirred a troubled Lunarlia into war.[8]

Siyen is one of the main settings of Mydnight's Hero, where Grand Master is sent on a quest to find Prince Karvas, in exile, and place him on his throne after the death of his father, King Oridon, instead of Baron Sadanzo, a rumoured agent of Naar.

A number of Siyenese artifacts can be found in the New Order series of books:
