Lone Wolf

The Grand Principalities of Slovia, commonly called Slovia, is a nation in the Stornlands of Northern Magnamund. It is the largest nation in the Stornlands and is regularly embroiled in war with the other Stornland nations; however, it is closely allied with the neighbouring Republic of Anari. The capital city is Suentina.

History[]

During the Golden Age of the Shianti, Aluvian nomads settled in the great plains of what would become Lunarlia and Slovia.[7]

According to Lone Wolf: The Roleplaying Game, it was founded in the midst of a great war in the eastern plains of Magnamund, and many sought refuge in what would become Slovia. These families were a confederation of the Nael and Aluvian peoples who were forced to get along with each other out of necessity.[5]

Although the Slovians are united, they are constantly at war with their neighbours, such was life in the Stornlands. However, it was not alone: Anari was its close ally, and about seventy percent of Anari's army was in Slovian mercenaries.[8] Slovia was also a member of the Freelands.[4] During MS 5050, it was feared that the Darklords had managed to infiltrate the royal court, and civil war seemed imminent.[1] According to Lone Wolf: The Roleplaying Game, Slovia is fiercely opposed to Vassagonia and the Darklands, but the only reason why the Darklands had not interfered in Slovian affairs was because they perceived Vassagonia to be a rival, and Slovia kept them occupied.[5]

In MS 5060, during the events of The Kingdoms of Terror, Slovia and Salony were at war, and Salony had managed to begin a siege of Tekaro.[9] Many Slovian refugees found sanctuary in the Forest of Ruel.[10]

In MS 5075, during the events of The Cauldron of Fear, Slovia, together with Palmyrion and Lourden, fought Ruel and stormed Mogaruith whilst Lone Wolf attempted to destroy a plague virus that the Cener Druids had managed to create.[11]

In MS 5077, Slovia was neutral in a war between Eldenora and Palmyrion. Eldenoran soldiers watched for deserters crossing the River Storn in to the Slovarian Plain.[12]

In MS 5083, during the events of Rune War, Eldenora was at war with Slovia.[2] Eldenora managed to destroy Tekaro, and in the process, a thousand Slovian prisoners were taken and murdered by Vorka, summoned by Lord Vandyan.[6] Vandyan's attack was broken when Grand Master managed to destroy the Runes of Agarash, preventing Vandyan from using its power.

Mogaruith was not truly destroyed in the war of MS 5075. In the Fehangor of MS 5102, Ruel rose once again, assaulting Slovia via the Ghardoz Bridge for the first time in centuries, using mutants and Agarashi bred from deep under Mogaruith. The Herbwardens of Bautar marched to help Slovia and Palmyrion, the latter of which had also fallen under a plague.[13]

Geography[]

Slovia is a large nation in Northern Magnamund. It is bordered by Lyris, Casiorn and Salony to the north, Eldenora, Ruel and Caron to the west, Lourden and Firalond to the south, and Anari and Vassagonia to the east.

Politics[]

Slovia is a Grand Principality, ruled by a Grand Prince. The constituent principalities are united, albeit precariously, under the Grand Prince's rule.[1]

Lone Wolf: The Roleplaying Game tells a different story. The bond that brought the Nael and Aluvian peoples together in the first place was retained through its history, when the confederation became a union of principalities, under the rule of a single prince.[5]

When a Slovian warrior dies on the battlefield, tradition dictates that his sword be placed on his chest.[14]

Demographics[]

Slovia has its origins in the Vaderish,[1] Aluvian,[1] and Nael[5] peoples. In MS 5000, its population was 180,000,[5] rising to 190,000 in MS 5050.[1] About a quarter of this population lives in the capital, Suentina.[5]

Economy[]

Slovia exports cloth, textiles, agriculture, iron ore, and bronin.[1]

In the gamebooks[]

Slovia may be briefly visited in Dawn of the Dragons. In this book, the player has the option of travelling from Palmyrion to Casiorn either via the Reloni Bridge and Slovarian Plain, or via Duadon and Rhem. If the former is taken, the player must break the watch of the Eldenoran soldiers to reach Slovia.[12] The player's stay in Slovia is brief, as they follow the border with Salony to reach Casiorn.[15]

Although it is not visited in these books, Slovian forces play a part in various battles in The Kingdoms of Terror, The Cauldron of Fear, The Plague Lords of Ruel, and Rune War.
