A Sun-crystal is a powerful crystal used by the Elder Magi, and a Special Item. It is capable of destroying a Child of Agarash, such as Shom'zaa, but not all powerful forms of evil, such as the Heart of Agarash.
A Sun-crystal is used by Grand Master to destroy Shom'zaa in The Fall of Blood Mountain.
Appearance[]
A Sun-crystal is a gem that radiates supernatural beams of golden light. It can be used to destroy Shom'zaa, but will not harm forces of good.[1][2]
History[]
The Elder Magi crafted Sun-crystals to destroy powerful forms of evil. It was effective against the Children of Agarash, with several being used against them in the past. However, it was ineffective in destroying the Heart of Agarash, which was instead contained in the Crypt of Agarash.[3]
Gwynian the Sage gives Lone Wolf a Sun-crystal in Dawn of the Dragons, to destroy the Shadow Gate which Naar was using to send his Lavas into Magnamund. In MS 5084, during the events of The Fall of Blood Mountain, Lord Rimoah gives Grand Master a Sun-crystal to destroy Shom'zaa, a Child of Agarash.[1]
In the gamebooks[]
In The Fall of Blood Mountain, Grand Master is given a Sun-crystal at the start of the adventure, to destroy Shom'zaa. It is a Special Item.[2] They will attempt to throw the Sun-crystal at Shom'zaa to destroy him,[4] but this is a difficult task.
If the player chooses to try to find a better view,[5] they will instead be attacked directly by Shom'zaa, and the Sun-crystal will be used after fighting him. If, instead, the player chooses to throw the Sun-crystal immediately, it only succeeds with a very high roll (≥ 8; ≤ 20 Endurance points deducts 1, and ≥ 30 Endurance points adds 1). Failing results in Shom'zaa being engaged in combat. Success, on the other hand, causes a massive implosion,[6] which may cause some loss of Endurance points, but destroys Shom'zaa for good.[7]
