The Sun-stone is a magical stone created by Shasarak, imbued with the power of the God Kai, stolen and twisted to Shasarak's will. The power of the Sun-stone granted the people of Taklakot great strength and wealth, until a great calamity befell them, wiping their race and cursing their lands for good.

A shard of the Sun-stone may be acquired by Grand Master in The Dusk of Eternal Night.

History[]

The Sun-stone was created by Shasarak, who stole the powers of the God Kai and stored it inside the Sun-stone. He then took it beyond the Mountains of Morn, to the land of Taklakot. This gave the Taklakotians the power of the Sun-stone, which transformed Taklakot into a flourishing nation. A temple revering the power of the Sun was created to harness the Sun-stone's powers, powering their advanced machinery, and feeding the crops in their lush fields. However, the power made the Taklakotians greedy, decadent and corrupt. The God Kai turned his attention to Taklakot, and in his anger, destroyed the city with a column of fire, shattering the Sun-stone.[1]

Centuries later, Shasarak created a Basalt Golem to gather up shards of his shattered Sun-stone for his experiments.[1] In one of his experiments, he discovered, by accident, that a powerful explosion, close to where the fabric of Aon was weakened (such as the remnants of a Shadow Gate in Southern Magnamund), could open a Gate of Doom to the Pit of Eternal Pain. On the very first time this happened, Shasarak made a bargain with Agarash the Damned: Agarash would grant Shasarak the forces required for Shasarak's military goals, but if he lost his war, he would switch places with him. Shasarak indeed lost his war, thanks to Grey Star, but as Shasarak attempted to fulfill his end of the bargain, Grey Star sealed both of them away in the Pit with the power of the Moonstone.[2]

In the gamebooks[]

A Sun-stone Shard may be acquired as a Backpack Item by Grand Master in The Dusk of Eternal Night, if they choose to explore Shasarak's lair. It can be found by exploring a chamber with metal chests.[3] However, to keep the Sun-stone Shard, Grand Master must first acquire a Galena Urn to store it in, which can be found in a different chamber.[4] However, the radiation is still so potent, it drains 2 Endurance points per day, unless it is also held inside the Drodarin Bag of Holding, which is a separate pocket dimension that fully protects Grand Master.

The Sun-stone Shard can later be given to Acraban to strengthen the Starstrider's defenses. It is strongly-recommended to do so, as otherwise, this triggers an extremely difficult fight against a Reborn Krakalla Flying Fortress (and Naarvakim crew), with a Combat Skill of 58, Endurance of 90, and potential rolls of death every turn without certain items, skills or ranks. It also has no other uses as of The Dusk of Eternal Night.
