Lone Wolf

Sun Lord is the eighth Kai Grand Master rank, and the twenty-sixth Kai rank overall, after Sun Knight.

In the Definitive Edition, the title is called Sun Liege, as a gender-neutral term and a better translation of the Scandinavian term that Joe Dever originally used for the rank.[1]

Training[]

Sun Lords reaching this rank have mastered seven Grand Master Disciplines, and New Order Sun Lords have mastered ten. In both cases, they have also mastered all the Magnakai and Kai Disciplines.

Improved Grand Master Disciplines[]

Sun Lords have improved Grand Master Disciplines over their original, initial mastery of them. Some improvements only apply to the Grand Master series (indicated by [GM]), and some improvements only apply to the New Order series (indicated by [NOGM]).[2][3]

Grand Weaponmastery
Sun Lords are able to ignite the metal edge of any non-magical weapon, inflicting an additional 1 Endurance point loss upon an enemy in every successful round of combat. This ability cannot be used with a wholly wooden Weapon such as a Quarterstaff.
Herbmastery[NOGM]
Sun Lords are able to cause living plants to entwine themselves around the limbs of hostile creatures, thereby hampering their free movement. Sun Lords are able to target only one creature in this way. An additional creature can be affected for every level a Grand Master rises above the rank of Sun Lord.
Assimilance
Sun Lords are able to blur their physical outline, making them hard to hit.
Grand Huntmastery
Sun Lords are able to see, with acute accuracy, light in the infrared spectrum, i.e. they can see the complex patterns generated by heat in near or total darkness. They can also see light in the ultraviolet spectrum.
Kai-surge
Main article: Kai-blast
Sun Lords are able to launch a Kai-blast — a pulse of intense psychic energy which is capable of affecting both psychically active and inactive enemies.
Telegnosis
Sun Lords are able to alter their body weight in order to walk successfully upon different kinds of surface, e.g. water, mud, lava, and quicksand. Duration and degree of surface difficulty increases as a Grand Master rises in rank.
Magi-magic
Sun Lords are able to use the following battle-spells of the Elder Magi:
Penetrate
Increases the penetrative energy of any Arrow, or Arrow-like missile, launched by a Sun Lord.
Energy Grasp
Enables a Sun Lord to discharge a powerful electrical force into anything he or she touches, akin to the Brotherhood Spell Lightning Hand. It differs in that it is easier to control and channel the resulting energy. It also requires the actual touching of an object or enemy to effect the spell.
Bardsmanship[NOGM]
Sun Lords are able to disrupt the structure of inanimate breakable objects such as glasses and flasks, causing them to explode violently. Any person or creature in close proximity to the destroyed object risks injury from flying fragments.

In the gamebooks[]

In the Grand Master series, completing three gamebooks promotes the reader to Sun Lord. The earliest this can be played as, and canonically for Lone Wolf, is The Legacy of Vashna.

In the New Order series, completing six gamebooks promotes the reader to Sun Lord. The earliest this can be played as, and canonically for Grand Master, is Vampirium.
