Sun Prince is the twelfth Kai Grand Master rank, and the thirtieth Kai rank overall, after Grand Thane. It is the penultimate Kai Grand Master rank before becoming a Kai Supreme Master.
Training[]
Sun Princes reaching this rank have mastered eleven Grand Master Disciplines, and New Order Grand Crowns have mastered fourteen. In both cases, they have also mastered all the Magnakai and Kai Disciplines.
Improved Grand Master Disciplines[]
Sun Princes have improved Grand Master Disciplines over their original, initial mastery of them. Some improvements only apply to the Grand Master series (indicated by [GM]), and some improvements only apply to the New Order series (indicated by [NOGM]).[1][2]
Like Grand Thane and Grand Crown, Sun Prince improvements differ substantially between the Grand Master and New Order series. Many of the New Order improvements, however were available at the previous rank, Grand Crown, in the Grand Master series.
Available across both the Grand Master and New Order series[]
- Animal Mastery
- Sun Princes are able to alter their appearance, including clothing and equipment, to take on the guise of any animal that they may come into contact with. This physical change will only be witnessed by the animal in question.
- Deliverance
- Sun Princes are able to cause the regeneration of lost body parts, i.e. hands, feet, arms, legs, eyes, and internal organs. This improved Discipline can be used to repair a Sun Prince's own body, or that of another person or creature. The time required to effect regeneration depends on the size and relative importance of the body part affected.
- Assimilance
- Sun Princes are able to create an illusory double of themselves and project this image up to a range of thirty feet whilst visual contact is kept. Physical, magical, and psychic attacks upon the illusory image will cause no injury. The range of this ability increases substantially when a Sun Prince attains the rank of Kai Supreme Master.
- Kai-surge
- Main article: Kai-ray
- Sun Princes are able to focus their psychic power into a Kai-ray. a laser-like beam of mental energy capable of penetrating the strongest of psychic defences.
- Kai-screen
- Sun Princes are able to create a mental sanctuary in which to keep safe their minds from psychic assault. This occurs instantly whenever a Sun Prince is subjected to psychic attack. The defensive strength of this sanctuary further increases when a Sun Prince attains the rank of Kai Supreme Master.
- Grand Huntmastery
- Sun Princes are able to control their direction and rate of movement when subjected to strong currents of air or water, or when venturing through non-material planes of existence, e.g. Shadow Gates.
New Order improvements[]
Previously available at Grand Crown in the Grand Master series[]
- Grand Pathsmanship[NOGM]
- Sun Princes are able to create a clear passageway through dense undergrowth, forest, or jungle, which reverts once having passed through this passageway. This skill can also be employed against magical foliage, or to counter any plant material ranged against them by an enemy.
- Grand Nexus[NOGM]
- Sun Princes are able to speak a Kai Power Word, causing physical and psychic damage to any single creature within a radius of thirty feet. The degree of damage so caused and the resultant drain upon a Grand Crown's reserves of Endurance are dependent upon individual circumstances. The power and range of this skill increase as a Grand Master rises in rank.
- Kai-alchemy[NOGM]
- Sun Princes are able to use the following Brotherhood Spells:
- Teleport
- Transports themselves, equipment, and their clothing to any place which they can see with their own eyes. It cannot be used on any other living creature and it will not transport any other living creature along with the caster. Use of this spell will cost the caster between 1 and 5 Endurance points every time it is used. This cost reduces as a Kai Grand Master increases in rank.
- See Illusion
- Sun Princes are able to detect an illusion and know immediately its true identity or purpose.
Unique New Order improvements[]
- Bardsmanship[NOGM]
- Sun Princes can inspire large groups of people by means of heroic speeches or songs, boosting their courage and combat effectiveness. The number of affected people and the range of audacious behaviours will increase when a Sun Prince attains the rank of Kai Supreme Master.
- Elementalism[NOGM]
- Sun Princes can alter the crystalline fabric of minerals and metals they touch, to turn them into chemically constant but distinct forms (like graphite into diamond) or to increase or diminish some of their physical properties (like hardness, oxidisability etc). One mineral is impervious to this skill: Kagonite and its alloys, including Black Steel, cannot be affected in this way by the Sun Prince.
- Herbmastery[NOGM]
- Sun Princes can alter the growth rate and pattern of any kind of natural plant, to accelerate its growth, to modify its shape or even the properties of the substances it produces (e.g. replacing toxins with healing substances). Plants mutated by the forces of Evil cannot be affected by this capacity.
- Astrology[NOGM]
- Sun Princes can subtly manipulate the stars, influencing destinies upon Magnamund. A Sun Prince can focus or eclipse the light of each of the following stars one time successfully per adventure:
- Sun or Moon
- Calls upon the power of Kai's (during the day) or Ishir's (at night), as long as they are overground. In combat, this causes:
- Servants of Darkness (Darkspawn, Drakkarim, Undead, Vampires, Demons, Agarashi, necromancers like the Nadziranim, Cener Druids, Acolytes of Vashna or Kitaezi Shamans)
- Lose 1 Combat Skill and 2 Endurance points cumulatively per round
- Champions of Darkness (Darklords, Demonlords, evil Shianti or Children of Agarash)
- Lose a constant 2 Combat Skill.
- The frequency and intensity of this divine support will increase as a Grand Master rises in rank.
- Burashos, the Star of Courage
- Sun Princes gain a bonus to resist the effects of fear.
- Sun Princes can also drain courage from their enemies in combat: In the first round of a fight, if an odd number is picked, enemies will be unable to inflict any damage to a Sun Prince due to a loss of nerve; only mindless creatures (Undead, constructs etc.) and Champions of Darkness, who are protected by the Lords and stars of Evil, cannot be affected by this power.
- Kaeymos, the Star of Fate
- Sun Princes can pick a second number on the Random Number Table when making a test outside of a fight. Two random numbers may be picked and the Sun Prince can decide which one to accept.
- Except for the fear bonus of Burashos, each effect is limited to one successful use per adventure. The number of stars that can be summoned will increase when a Sun Prince attains the rank of Kai Supreme Master.
In the gamebooks[]
In the Grand Master series, completing seven gamebooks promotes the reader to Sun Prince. The earliest this can be played as, and canonically for Lone Wolf, is The Curse of Naar.
In the New Order series, completing ten gamebooks promotes the reader to Sun Prince. The earliest this can be played as, and canonically for Grand Master, is The Dusk of Eternal Night.
