The Skull of Agarash is a graphic novel in the Lone Wolf book series. Set in MS 5077, between the events of The Legacy of Vashna and The Deathlord of Ixia, Lone Wolf sets to rescue Lord Rimoah, who has been captured by Pirate Captain Khadro, who also controls Giaks and Kraan with the help of the Skull of Agarash.

Plot[]

After Agarash the Damned was defeated, his physical body was shattered. The Elder Magi separated and secured these body parts so that he could not be reconstituted. However, not all these body parts were accounted for, with some falling into the hands of evil, and such was Agarash's power, these became powerful evil relics in their own right.

A Nadziran of Bukimi was guided by Naar to Bukimi Island, where the titular Skull of Agarash was located. This Nadziran took control of the island with the Skull, and in MS 5077, manipulated Captain Khadro into capturing Lord Rimoah, offering him the power of the Skull in exchange. The Nadziran knew that this would attract the attention of Lone Wolf, who would surely come to rescue him, at which point the Nadziran could take revenge for destroying his old master, Darklord Menashga, back in MS 5070.

Lone Wolf indeed set out for Bukimi Island after being informed by agents in Dessi. He travelled to the city-port of Kadan, to find information about Captain Khadro. With the help of an agent, Azara, he met Mazrah of the Assassin's Guild of Kadan, who agreed to help, wanting to take revenge on Khadro for murdering his two sons. With Mazrah's men, they sailed to Bukimi Island, where they were assaulted by Agarashi, leading to many casualties. They eventually managed to find Khadro's base, and a fierce battle was fought. Lone Wolf infiltrated Khadro's hut, where he discovered that Azara was actually a Nadziran who had manipulated everyone. Lone Wolf slew Azara, but Khadro attacked Lone Wolf with the power of the Skull of Agarash, binding him with red lightning and leaving him vulnerable. As Khadro moved in for the kill, he was slain by Mazrah, saving Lone Wolf. Lone Wolf then turned his attention to the Skull of Agarash, which attempted to assault Lone Wolf psychically in defence. However, Lone Wolf was able to overcome these apparitions, destroying the Skull with the Sommerswerd.

Mazrah's men were successful in defeating Khadro's forces, and they escaped the cove before a massive explosion occurred. Mazrah took Khadro's loot as payment, and Lone Wolf and Lord Rimoah returned home on Banedon's Cloud-dancer.

Publication history[]

The original novel is now out of print, and is highly valued by many collectors. Project Aon later received a license to publish it online.

In 2024, Holmgard Press announced that the novel would be republished, in full colour and with extra information. It was released in May 14th, 2024, together with some bonus lore and a remastered version of Dawn of the Darklords.[1]
