V'Ka, sometimes capitalised V'ka,[note 1] is the capital of Maakenmire.

History[]

In MS 4711, the Gourgaz and Kwaraz of the Maakenmire formed an alliance. Most of the Gourgaz emigrated to the Darklands to lead the Giaks, but some remained behind to establish a foothold for the Darklords. An army of Drakkarim and Swamp Giaks were commissioned to develop the Maakenmire. A massive stronghold, V'Ka, was built of pure obsidian, in the heart of the Maakenmire.[1]

V'Ka's architecture was influenced by the Gourgaz, rather than the Drakkarim, with walls at unusual angles and irregular spikes jutting out from the fortifications. Deep beneath V'Ka, a Swamp Giak Spawning Pit was constructed, powered by a tributary of the Nengud-kor-Adez that is responsible for the corruption in the Maakenmire in the first place, and tended to by Nadziranim Breedmasters.[1]

In MS 5000, during the events of Terror of the Darklords, a party of Kai Lords infiltrated V'Ka in order to discover the plans of Svader. His plan was to revive Darklord Vashna in a ritual involving the skull of Sun Eagle and the blood of the party's teacher, Kai Master Stormsong.[2]

Some time after MS 5070, during the events of Slaves of the Mire, Kai initiate Autumn Snow pursued the forces of Darkness to V'Ka, in order to retrieve the Book of Vashna before they could use it.[3]

In Lone Wolf media[]

V'Ka is the setting of the RPG Terror of the Darklords and gamebook Slaves of the Mire.

Notes[]

  1. In Terror of the Darklords, where one of the adventures is set, it is capitalised "V'ka". In Slaves of the Mire, another setting, it is capitalised "V'Ka". Other works, such as The Magnamund Companion and Magnamund Menagerie, use "V'ka". This article assumes that the latest work, Slaves of the Mire, has the canonical spelling.
