Onward you trek, through knee-deep snow and jagged ice, towards the towering walls of Xaagon. The city is dominated by a spire of crystal which stabs the stormy sky, drawing lightning from the black clouds which swirl around its tip. From this needle-sharp point there radiates a crimson glow which sweeps the surrounding landscape. It is like a hellish lighthouse, casting its baleful crimson beams across a landscape that has frozen to death.
— Lone Wolf draws close to Xaagon.[1]
Xaagon is the capital city of Ixia, a barren wasteland that was ruled for 10,000 years by Deathlord Ixiataaga.
History[]

Xaagon was home to a brilliant civilization around 4000 MS, who built many crystal buildings. After the arrival of Deathlord Ixiataaga, he exterminated the land and turned its inhabitants into undead, and Xaagon was turned into frozen ruins.[2] Ixiataaga forced the undead to erect many statues and monuments to his rule. During the Age of Eternal Night, he was sealed away by the combined powers of the Elder Magi in Xaagon. However, Ixiataaga was still able to move, and manifest his power outside of Xaagon, allowing him to slowly rebuild his forces.[3]
In MS 5077, during the events of The Deathlord of Ixia, Naar sent the Deathstaff to Ixia, and the undead used the Deathstaff to free Ixiataaga from his prison. He began to build an army to prepare for an invasion of Magnamund, which the Freelands were unprepared for.[4] However, Lone Wolf infiltrated Xaagon and slew Deathlord Ixiataaga, ending the threat. Xaagon, held together by Ixiataaga's power, also collapsed upon his destruction, and the first rays of sunlight and warmth appeared in Ixia in over a thousand years.[5]
Appearance[]
Xaagon is surrounded by a wall. At the center of the city there is a tall crystal spire, which acts as a lightning rod that draws electricity from the dark clouds that swirl perpetually over the city. The tip of the spire emits a crimson glow that makes the building resemble a lighthouse.[6]
In the gamebooks[]
Lone Wolf visits Xaagon during the events of The Deathlord of Ixia, in order to destroy Deathlord Ixiataaga before he could invade Magnamund. He travels to Ixia by ship, then to Xaagon by land. During this quest, he also slays Demonlord Tagazin, revealed to be a servant of Deathlord Ixiataaga.[7]
The gamebook is notoriously one of the most difficult in the entire series, with multiple enemies with high Combat Skills, immunity to psychic attacks, and using the Sommerswerd results in instant death as it attracts the attention of Ixiataaga.
